MISSION & VISION
The mission of He Is My Neighbor (HIMN) is to build bridges between churches, both Hispanic and Chinese—in order to reach out to migrant workers in Chinatown and in the surrounding areas of Houston. We aim to sow the seeds of the Gospel in the hearts of as many migrant workers as possible. We then hope to refer these migrant workers to local churches where they can study the Bible and deepen their faith. As our cause grows, we intend to expand our activities to other locations around Houston.
Currently, HIMN is operated by Christian volunteers from South Houston Bible Chapel and Fort Bend Community Church (FBCC), a nondenominational Chinese church in Missouri City which have partnered together to bring the Gospel to this underserved community. Together, we are bravely stepping out of our comfort zones and responding to God’s call to bring the serve to our neighbors. We are certain that God will bless this work, showing faithfulness and mercy to both the migrant workers whom we serve as well as the faithful brothers and sisters who are serving.
HIMN is always looking for more churches and individuals across denominations and ethnic backgrounds that share the same fundamental Christian beliefs to join in this mission. We are especially seeking more Spanish-speaking volunteers, as many of the migrant workers speak fluent Spanish but only very limited English. Through this unique cross-cultural ministry, we hope to become more appreciative of our differences yet also of our unity in the Christian faith.
